Limit information resources and frequency of checking – while it’s important to keep up to date too much information can be overwhelming and confusing. Limit the information resources you are using ie. Pick one to two reliable resources (government websites, or official medical advisories). Check these for updates one or twice a week, avoid daily use

Keep routine – It is important to keep a weekly/daily routine, waking up at the same time and going to bed, eating at the same time, continue to dress like you would for work if working from home, continue weekly exercise as usual. Working from home and being restricted to outings can contribute to withdrawal and stationary lifestyle, it’s important to keep to routine as much as you can.

Keep Moving – Implement weekly exercise routines, making sure to get outside when and if possible, if being outside is anxiety provoking, limit the times you go during the day in less busier hours of the morning or afternoons.

Working From Home – For those working from home be sure to set boundaries, this includes only checking work emails and phone calls during regular working hours, keep work away from resting and relaxing part of the house, have an office or space for work, set up ergonomic work place to avoid strain or injury

Relaxation – Set time in weekly schedule to relax, self-care and look after yourself, these might include activities and hobbies you enjoy

Stay Connected – While social distancing and isolation is required during this time, we don’t have to lose connection to those around us. Set up regular phone calls or video chats to talk to family and friends, bringing your support network closer emotionally not physically

Stay Healthy – Like tip number 3 of keep moving, it’s also important to eat healthy foods, as well as, keeping your mind active. Avoid high fat and sugar concentrated foods, restrict alcohol intake and engage in mindful activities such as: reading and writing.

Self-hygiene and personal care – Going out less, means less requirement to keep to strict grooming and hygiene care, however, personal care can impact overall mood and productivity, keep to regular grooming and hygiene needs

Watch for unhelpful thoughts and feelings – If feeling fatigued, lowered mood, unable to eat, overeating, sleep disruptions, suicidal thoughts or plans seek medical and professional advice – these are uncertain times and needing help is okay.
